How Does KYBELLA® work?
The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.

Most patients experience only minimal discomfort during Kybella® injection. The needle is very fine, and the procedure is quick. If you’re concerned about pain, discuss this with your specialist before your appointment—they may be able to apply a numbing cream or use other comfort measures.
After your Kybella® injection, you may experience some swelling, redness, or bruising in the treated area. These side effects are normal and typically subside within a few days to a week. Most patients can return to their regular activities right away, though some prefer to avoid strenuous exercise for a couple of days.
