HALO Laser Treatments

Over time, sun exposure, stress, aging, hormones, breakouts and other factors can dull our skin’s texture and appearance. The HALO laser is designed to restore your skin to a youthful glow by encouraging it to regenerate on both the outer and inner layers. Berman Skin Institute offers HALO laser treatments at our San Francisco or Berkeley location to help our patients revitalize their skin.

What Does a HALO Laser Do?

Before the invention of the HALO laser, most laser options were either ablative or non-ablative, meaning that they affected either the top layer of skin or the inner layers, where you find collagen and fat. The HALO laser works by applying both ablative and non-ablative laser waves to an area of affected skin, meaning it works in both areas simultaneously. This encourages widespread skin regeneration and healing, resulting in a more glowing complexion.

Although some patients require more than one HALO laser session to reach their desired outcomes, others only need a single treatment.

What Types of Skin Conditions Does a HALO Laser Help?

The HALO laser is unlike many other laser treatments because it can address one or multiple skin concerns in a single procedure. A few of the most common reasons that patients choose HALO laser treatments include:

  • Minimizing lines, wrinkles and saggy skin.
  • Reducing hyperpigmented skin.
  • Decreasing scarring from acne and other skin trauma.
  • Restoring skin elasticity and youthful texture.

Is the HALO Laser Treatment Procedure Safe and Comfortable?

The HALO laser treatment is safe when performed by a trained and certified provider and takes under an hour from start to finish. That said, it does cause some heat and a “prickly” feeling as the wavelengths penetrate the surface and deeper skin layers. For this reason, most providers apply a numbing topical anesthetic product beforehand to reduce skin sensations.

How Soon Do Results Show After a HALO Laser Treatment?

It takes several days for your skin to show the full results of your HALO laser treatment. Immediately after, you may experience redness and mild puffiness, similar to the sensation of sunburn. Within the first two or three days, you may notice small dark spots appearing on your skin. This is a normal result when the skin’s inner layers shed, a process called MENDS for “microscopic epidermal necrotic debris”, making way for regenerated skin.

Although all HALO laser outcomes are personal, most people report noticeable improvements within about a week. These improvements tend to continue for several weeks as the skin gradually recovers. With proper skincare techniques and regular sun protection, results can be maintained for years.
