Acne scars, wrinkles and age spots can affect your self-esteem. At Berman Skin Institute, our comprehensive suite of medical and cosmetic dermatology services allows everyone to look and feel their best with the help of our expert providers. If you’re looking to enhance your appearance and diminish signs of aging, laser skin resurfacing may be for you.
How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?
At Berman Skin Institute, we complete skin resurfacing with the UltraPulse, a CO2 laser that works well with the moisture in your skin. During treatment, the UltraPulse delivers targeted beams of light to your skin at any depth, allowing it to vaporize deep-seated wrinkles, scars, dark spots and other imperfections, regardless of how deep in the dermis they are.
The light wavelength also stimulates collagen production within the skin, allowing it to become stronger and more resilient in the future. Results usually appear within a few treatments and can last for years with minimal or no side effects.

What Can Skin Resurfacing Treat?
We recommend laser skin resurfacing treatments for a variety of conditions, including:
- Rosacea
- Age and liver spots
- Scars
- Wrinkles
- Loose or sagging skin
- Fat pads under the eyes
The UltraPulse is a highly precise device, allowing it to go layer by layer through skin and remove imperfections while leaving glowing skin behind. It also has a built-in cooling feature to minimize swelling and enhance the recovery process.
What Can I Expect From a Skin Resurfacing Procedure?
Whether you want a precise treatment on a few target areas or full facial laser resurfacing, your procedure should not take more than 30 to 40 minutes. Prior to your appointment, you’ll be instructed to avoid tanning. You may be given numbing cream or an oral sedative on the day to minimize discomfort.
Following your procedure, your epidermis (the topmost layer of your skin) will slough off within a few days, leaving behind newer, less blemished skin. You may experience some redness, swelling or discomfort, and we encourage you to relax during the five-day recovery period. Major complications are rare, but your provider will be in contact to ensure your recovery is going as planned. You may need to moisturize the treatment area more often than usual.

Laser Skin Resurfacing FAQs
Let’s dive into some FAQs regarding Laser Skin Resurfacing.
Laser skin resurfacing is a cosmetic treatment that uses targeted laser energy to remove damaged layers of skin and encourage healthier, smoother-looking skin to develop. Berman Skin Institute uses the UltraPulse® CO₂ laser for this treatment.
Laser skin resurfacing may improve the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars, age spots, rosacea, uneven skin texture, loose or sagging skin, and under-eye fat pads. A provider can determine whether it is appropriate for your specific concerns.
The UltraPulse CO₂ laser delivers precise beams of light to the skin at selected depths. The laser vaporizes targeted imperfections while also stimulating collagen production in the deeper layers of the skin. This process can help the skin become smoother, stronger, and more resilient.
Yes. Laser skin resurfacing can be used as part of an approach to aging and lax skin concerns affecting the face and neck. During a consultation, your provider can discuss which areas may benefit from treatment.
Fraxel™ laser treatment targets smaller, more specific areas of the skin and leaves surrounding tissue untreated to support faster healing. UltraPulse CO₂ laser resurfacing provides a more comprehensive treatment over a larger surface area and may be recommended for deeper wrinkles, scars, dark spots, and other imperfections.
Many patients may begin noticing smoother, healthier-looking skin within about a week, while additional improvements may appear after multiple treatments.
Laser skin resurfacing may be worth considering if you want to improve wrinkles, scars, discoloration, uneven texture, or other visible signs of aging. The best way to determine whether treatment is appropriate is to schedule a consultation with a Berman Skin Institute provider.
