Your Pathway to Healthy Skin Through Dermatological Health

When you look for a dermatologist in Palo Alto, you may not be thinking beyond the skin issue that you are currently dealing with. However, there are several different options that you have when it comes to how to approach your skin health. As a result, along with watching the sunlight, avoiding smoking, and using products that give your skin the nutrition it needs, be sure to find a dermatological procedure that can help you with blemishes and marks of aging.

Choose Your Practices

Many people promote lifestyle changes when it comes to helping skin and health in general. These are general, but are ideally suited for those who are younger and have good skin as a preventative measure. When you already have issues, it’s medical intervention that can turn the tide. There are more options than ever to help in this regard. Here’s a small sampling of the options you can use.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion uses a combination of a diamond-tip wand and small particles cut cells off of the top layer of skin. This gets rid of dead or affected skin while allowing new skin to grow. While not necessarily painful, it can cause some discomfort. The biggest drawback of microdermabrasion is the fact that it’s not a one-time process. You will need to have the procedure done several times over multiple weeks in order to make sure that you’re getting the results you want.

Chemical Peels

Scars and discoloration are the main targets when this procedure is used. However, chemical peels are also useful for age spots and wrinkles in the mouth area. This removes outer layers of skin while stimulating new skins, similar to microdermabrasion.

Laser Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing is a versatile option that uses lasers to send short, pulsating beams of light at the skin. As a result, you can easily remove damaged, irregular, and excess skin. However, there are dual purposes to this procedure. While it removes the epidermis, it heats the dermis to stimulate the growth of new collagen fiber. As it heals, the new skin that forms not only looks better, but is firmer.

At this point, you may be asking which of these is the best. That’s a question without an answer. What you need to do is get a professional look at your skin. Knowing your skin’s traits and issues will ensure that you find the best fits for you, but this is the best option.
