Your Primer to Laser Resurfacing

For many people, dealing with aging and unattractive skin is a real source of annoyance and discomfort. Practicing good habits and using certain products that support the skin can do a lot to mitigate some of these situations, but nothing is guaranteed. When it gets to this point, you may want to turn to a skin doctor from Roseville or wherever you live to get help. Medical science means that dermatology has more assets than ever to help treat your skin. One such innovation is laser resurfacing.

How It Works

Laser resurfacing uses lasers to remove layers of skin, and it can help improve appearance general appearance as well as treating minor facial flaws. Note that not every dermatologist performs this service. Be sure to check in and see if your dermatologist offers it, and if not there are several resources that can help you connect with one who does. When you decide that you want this done, you can choose one of two options:

Non-ablative laser. This non-wounding laser stimulates collagen growth, along with tightening up the underlying skin. A non-ablative laser combines many types of smaller lasers with intense pulsed light (IPL) devices to get the desired results. The tradeoff is that these are less effective, but are also less invasive and carry a smaller recovery time.

Ablative laser. This wounding laser includes several different types of lasers, the carbon dioxide (CO2) laser and the erbium laser to remove thin layers of skin. This can do more, but also has a higher recovery time.

Keep your budget and time available in mind when it comes to choosing which of these options you want to use.

How Do I Get Started?

It’s important to note that not all of our skin is the same. A dermatologist will help you figure out what is unique to you. They are also a valuable asset towards guiding you towards the best ways to help your skin.

Before getting started, it’s important to discuss something when it comes to skin treatments. Despite all the advances, nothing is guaranteed. This is why it’s important to keep a healthy mindset and reasonable expectations when it comes to your skin. Your dermatologist will help you lay out what can be done based on your skin and the procedure that you’re choosing. In other cases, they may be able to help provide you with a better alternative.

Disclaimer: We are unable to guarantee any result, even though most of our patients do see success. The results of our services will vary greatly to each patient’s level of commitment and compliance with the program.
