3 Home Remedies for Dry Skin

Flaky or dry skin tends to affect people in droves when the
winter season rolls around. Thankfully, for those experiencing dry skin who
don’t want to go through the trouble of seeking professional skin treatment in
San Francisco, there are a host of simple home remedies that can greatly improve
dry skin conditions.

Honey

Honey is known to be one of the most central home remedy
ingredients in various applications, including skin care. This makes sense due
to the high amounts of antimicrobial and humectant properties as well as
antioxidants found in honey. Due to its inherent properties, an application of
honey to dry areas of skin can lock in moisture, leading to the skin being
smoother and softer over time. Additionally, honey contains several other
minerals and vitamins that serve to improve the overall health of the skin.
It’s advised that honey be applied before a shower or bath, over the entire
body, and left there between five and ten minutes. The process should be
repeated daily or as needed until the condition improves. Even after the dry
skin is remedied, a periodic application of honey to the body can lead to the
improvement of overall skin health at any age.

Coconut Oil

The high amounts of fatty acids in coconut oil make it a great
option for treating dry skin at home. The vitamins and nutrients in coconut
oil, when applied, can fill in for any moisture lost from the skin. It’s advised
that warm coconut oil be liberally applied throughout the body before going to
bed, and washed off in the morning. The process is to be repeated daily, or
until the skin appears to be sufficiently smooth and soft. Alternatively,
coconut oil can also be applied to the entire body after a shower or bath. The
pores on the skin open up after a warm wash, better readying the skin to absorb
the coconut oil.

Avocado

Avocado is replete with vitamins, antioxidants, and fatty acids,
all of which go a long way in improving skin condition from the inside out.
Avocado also contains plenty of vitamin A, which aids in skin repair and
maintenance. In applying avocado, it is advised to work the avocado pulp until
it turns into a smooth, consistent paste. The paste must then be rubbed all
over the dry areas of the skin, letting it sit between ten to fifteen minutes.
Then, the paste must be washed off with cold water. The process is to be
repeated daily until smooth, vibrant skin quality is reached. Additionally,
drinking a glass of an avocado smoothie daily will lead to a higher intake of
wholesome fats that will work toward maintaining the hydration and
moisturization of the skin.
