Treating Wrinkles

Treating Wrinkles

Let’s face it: nobody likes getting older. In fact, we try everything we can to fight any signs that we’re getting up in years. One of the things that we try our best to hide is wrinkles. We go to a dermatologist in Cameron Park or elsewhere to try to get rid of them, and the good news is, there are a few treatments that can help with that.

Carbon Dioxide Laser Resurfacing

This treatment usually takes about an hour, and involves the use of lasers to remove the top layer of skin, which is often damaged. The lasers then purge old collagen and promote the production of new collagen, which causes the skin to appear tighter and less wrinkled. As you might expect, Recovery from this procedure is quite painful, as the skin on your face basically becomes an open wound, so this calls for ice cold water once every few hours, followed by ointment to help moisturize and fight infection.

An alternative to this type of treatment is fractionated ablatives, which is a newer type of laser that does not remove the whole layer of skin, but rather just tiny tissue plugs. This results in quicker, less painful healing.

Carbon dioxide laser resurfacing can have results that last up to eight years, but fractionated ablatives may require multiple sessions for the greatest effect.

Chemical Peels

Despite how it may sound from the name, this treatment is actually less invasive and painful than laser resurfacing. It accomplishes the same thing as far as stimulating collagen production, but it uses acid rather than intense light to do so. As a result, healing time is usually less painful and shorter, depending on how deep you want the peel to be.

Cross-Linked Hyaluronic Acid Injections

This is a more immediate fix than the other solutions, as it uses an injected filler to “fill” the wrinkles. The injections are put directly in the wrinkles and fill them out in the space of about five minutes. It is significantly less painful than laser resurfacing, but there may be some bruising and swelling. How long this treatment lasts depends on the depth of the wrinkle and the amount of filler that is used.

Paying a visit to the dermatologist in Cameron Park is the best way to treat your wrinkles, whether they use one of these treatments or something completely different.
